Today is one of the proudest days of my life. I’ve finished writing my first book. It’s titled Framed: A Villain’s Perspective on Social Media.

I started gathering content in mid 2021. My “side hustle” central to the book’s storyline ended in February 2022. I spent a year developing ideas, writing short essays, and convincing myself that the path to authorship was viable. The year after that was spent outlining the book, conducting research, and developing a few full chapters. The last twelve months have involved a lot of writing and editing as well as “everything else” necessary to self-publish in 2025.

For the last four months I’ve been telling friends that “It’s pretty much done.” Now, aside from minor citations, final formatting, and the last push from my copy editor, I declare that it’s pretty much done. Well, I’m finished writing. The manuscript exceeded 150k words. What gets published will probably be around 118k.

The book was an outgrowth of this blog: my weird experiences delivered in a casual voice and shared with whoever shows up. If you’ve liked reading my stuff, you’ll like reading my stuff. Today, after a great first week of presales in which I reached #1 in the “Social Aspects of the Internet” and “Social Media” categories on Kindle, I’m announcing that I’m dropping the price of Framed to $0.99 before publication on 2/28/25.

I’ve heard that the only thing harder than writing a book is marketing the book. It’s time for me to do some marketing. What this means for this blog and my web presence overall, I really don’t know. Yes, I’m an “author” now but there is no way I’m going to try to build myself into a “social media” or “Big Tech” pundit. This blog has some weird posts but it still gets steady traffic. I’m never going to abandon it but I’m thinking it’s worth streamlining things while testing “modern” platforms.

I’m still on Goodreads (with an “author” profile now!). I’ve moved my mailing list to Beehiiv and I’m going to more frequently publish short posts there. Where I take it from here will depend on whether anybody decides to read the book. As always, thanks for reading!
